Reston National is among Northern Virginia’s favorite classic golf courses. Designed by the legendary Ed Ault, Reston National is a great place to learn, practice, and play golf. The course is an 18 hole regulation course with 6,878 yards of golf and a par of 71. The course opened in 1970. The Learning Center is considered one of the best player development golf schools in the country having developed a learning process that creates a safe haven for golfers with little pressure and an emphasis on fun. Other amenities include an on-site grill and driving range. There is a plan to reroute part of the course in the coming years with a renovation.

 

Position Summary:

We are currently seeking a skilled and dependable Golf Course Mechanic to join our grounds maintenance team. This is a hands-on, critical role responsible for the repair, preventive maintenance, and precision sharpening of all golf course equipment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair all golf course equipment including riding mowers, walk-behind mowers, fairway units, rough mowers, sprayers, utility vehicles, and tractors
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, lubrication, belt and blade inspections) on all equipment
  • Sharpen, grind, and backlap reel mowers to maintain precise cutting quality for greens, tees, fairways, and approaches
  • Set and adjust bedknife-to-reel tolerances to manufacturer specifications using precision measurement tools
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems across a variety of turf and grounds equipment
  • Weld and fabricate parts or structural components as needed
  • Maintain detailed maintenance records, parts inventories, and repair logs
  • Manage parts ordering, vendor relationships, and equipment warranty documentation
  • Keep the maintenance shop clean, safe, and well-organized at all times
  • Coordinate with the Superintendent to prioritize equipment readiness around daily operations and seasonal demands
  • Assist with irrigation system repairs and other grounds maintenance duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in turf equipment repair and maintenance, preferably in a golf course or sports turf environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of small engine, diesel, gasoline, and electric equipment systems
  • Proficiency in reel grinding, bedknife adjustment, and cutting unit setup
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, wiring schematics, and hydraulic diagrams
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with solid troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities with minimal supervision
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions

 

Classification:

Year-round, full-time, salaried

 

Annual salary:

$60,000 – $80,000, depending on experience and qualifications
