Colwood Golf Center
Located in Northeast Portland near PDX, Colwood is a player-development and event-friendly facility featuring a 9-hole par-3 course, driving range, footgolf, and flexible event space that attracts beginners, families, and value-oriented golfers.

 

Eastmoreland Golf Course
A centrally located 18-hole course in Southeast Portland, Eastmoreland pairs historic significance as Oregon’s second-oldest public course with modern amenities including a lighted double-deck driving range, active restaurant, and private event space.

 

Heron Lakes Golf Course
Set within a scenic natural floodplain, Heron Lakes offers 36 holes of championship golf designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Jr., supporting high daily play with a grass-tee range and clubhouse dining.

 

Rose City Golf Course
A classic municipal course with deep Portland history, Rose City is known for its tree-lined fairways, challenging par-4s, and historic clubhouse, making it a beloved neighborhood gathering place and a staple of the city’s public golf culture.

Position Summary:

This position provides public outreach, marketing, and administrative support, serving as a liaison between Portland Parks Golf and the broader community. The role focuses on building meaningful community partnerships, expanding awareness and participation in golf and recreation programming, and supporting initiatives that increase access, engagement, and long-term participation among both golf and non-golf audiences. This position supports the mission of Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) by helping create welcoming, vibrant, and accessible golf facilities that connect with the surrounding community and encourage lifelong enjoyment of the game.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Marketing Manager to develop and implement marketing and public relations plans and strategies that grow participation, increase visibility, and support community engagement efforts.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, local businesses, media outlets, and golf associations to support outreach goals, programming participation, and community connection.
  • Maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, clinics, open houses, workshops, and other engagement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Player Development and Food & Beverage teams to design, promote, and execute golf and non-golf programs, events, and experiences that increase community engagement, drive participation, and introduce new audiences to Portland Parks Golf facilities.
  • Represent the Company in meetings and/or presentations with various clients, municipalities, and other outside agencies regarding outreach plans and strategies – including but not limited to the PP&R, Portland’s Golf Advisory Committee, the Portland Business Alliance, and others.
  • Sustain positive relationships and communicate clearly, tactfully, and professionally with employees, customers, and community partners. Support staff awareness of outreach initiatives to ensure consistent messaging and positive customer experiences.
  • Develop and implement a Community Engagement and Access Plan that outlines goals, strategies, and initiatives designed to increase awareness, participation, and utilization of golf and recreational offerings across the Portland community. This may include outreach to new or underserved audiences, introductory programs, partnerships, and events that reduce barriers to participation.
  • Collaborate with property leadership to support staff awareness of community engagement initiatives, outreach programs, and customer-facing experiences to ensure accessibility, clarity, and consistency.
  • Monitor programs, events, and customer experiences and make recommendations to improve access, participation, customer service, and community connection.
  • Conduct ongoing research on community engagement best practices, event opportunities, public recreation trends, and outreach strategies, and recommend enhancements that support participation, awareness, and program effectiveness.
  • Design signage and promotional materials that inform customers and community members about programs, events, and opportunities available at Portland Parks Golf facilities.
  • Create and maintain project plans, reports, design slide presentations, and provide regular status updates and ensure timely submission of monthly reports to all stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as appropriate and as needed based on business needs.

 

Education/Qualifications/Certifications:

  • BA or BS degree preferred.
  • 3 or more years applicable strategic planning, marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • Ability to apply principles and methods of community outreach to support broad participation, effective communication, and engagement across diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated quality written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision; work flexible hours as required including nights/weekends.
  • Positive attitude, professional manner and appearance in all situations.
  • Experience in golf and/or hospitality environments, or a working knowledge of the game of golf, is preferred.

 

Supervises:

No direct reports, but position may supervise & direct team members for specific events, initiatives, or programs.

 

Working Conditions:

Work hours may include days and evenings on weekdays and weekends.  Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.  May be exposed to inclement weather, potentially dangerous pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers, misdirected golf balls, sharp and rapid equipment movement.  Injury may result as a result of exposure to the above if safety policies and practices are not properly followed at all times.

 

Machine/Equipment/Tools Used:

General office machines such as personal computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, calculators, telephones, etc. VDT glare screen and wrist rest. Golf clubs, golf cars.

 

Classification:

Fulltime, Exempt, Salaried, Non-Seasonal

 

Compensation & Benefits:

  • $60,000–$70,000 annually
  • Health insurance, retirement plan, paid time off
