Located in the north side Chicago suburb of Glenview, The Glen Club is a world-class daily fee golf club with corporate memberships. The facility includes a Tom Fazio-designed golf course and a 50,000 sq. ft. clubhouse that houses a golf shop, locker rooms, a full-service restaurant, spacious banquet facilities, 21 overnight guest accommodations, the Illinois Golf Hall of Fame, Korn Ferry Golf Tour event and is the home of the Illinois Section of the PGA.

 

Position Summary:

A Houseman or House person’s job description involves a teammate responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and organization of our club and event venues. The Houseman provides support to the housekeeping, maintenance, and banquet staff, performing tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and polishing. They are also responsible for removing trash and linen from our spaces and public areas, and replenishing supplies, furniture, and amenities. The Houseman assists with the setup and breakdown of events and meetings and helps to maintain the facility’s appearance and functionality. They may also perform routine maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs and repairing basic fixtures. The Houseman job description requires someone with strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work well in a team, as well as being a self-starter as many of the hours worked are non-guest facing hours. This position is vital to ensuring that guests have a comfortable and memorable experience during their events, and that the banquet servers and teams are set up for success.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Report to work as scheduled. Be in uniform and ready to work before punching the time clock.
  • Set banquet or meeting room according to detailed event order. Responsible for setting up satellite bars, bar tables and gathering liquor. A full stock bar depending on guest count guaranteed.
  • Meet with the Food & Beverage Manager prior to the event to go over specifics of the event.
  • Make sure that set-up and tear down of all banquet events is according to the BEO (Banquet Event Order)
  • Set tables and chairs according to Club standards.
  • Assist with complete set up and breakdown of the banquet area.
  • Assist with the complete setup and breakdown of the banquet area.
  • Maintain composure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attend pre-shifts when applicable, listen and follow banquet manager’s (or captain’s) instructions.
  • Attend BEO meetings for pertinent information for Events.
  • Service members and guests using prescribed service standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout your shift.
  • Attend to the needs of all guests.
  • Display a positive, friendly, and professional attitude.
  • Report all guest comments to your supervisor.
  • Perform all duties deemed necessary to guarantee total guest satisfaction.
  • Be kind and courteous to members and your peers and promote teamwork.
  • Remain in the room functioning during hours of service, no cell phones on the floor or wandering off without prior authorization from manager.
  • Perform related as requested or required by your supervisor.
  • Be well versed on all food and beverage items regarding preparation and presentation.
  • Comply with all policies regarding safety, health, sanitation and service of alcoholic beverages.
  • Attending all scheduled staff meetings and training sessions is a requirement.
  • Maintain all banquet equipment i.e. that it is clean and in working order.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the manager.

Qualifications:

  • High school or equivalent.
  • One-year prior experience as server preferred.
  • Food handler certification – may take before first day of work.
  • Courteous, professional, and business-like appearance, demeanor and behavior.
  • Ability to show up for work on time prepared to work.
  • Ability to follow directions from your supervisor or prevailing Manager on duty.
  • Ability to accept constructive criticism.
  • Ability to interact well with co-workers, Members and guests.
  • Ability to understand and follow work rules and procedures.
  • Speak and communicate in English.
  • May be required to work varying schedule, nights, and weekends.
  • Must stand for long periods of time.
  • Must lift up to 50 lbs.
