Rock Spring Golf Club at West Orange features one of only two public golf courses in the United States designed by legendary architect Seth Raynor, whose highly-ranked work includes Fisher’s Island in New York, Shoreacres on Chicago’s North Shore and Mid Ocean Club in Bermuda. Twelve of Raynor’s courses are on GOLF Magazine’s list of the Top 100 in the U.S.

Rock Spring’s 6,600-yard par-71 course sits on a rolling, tree-lined site and features many of Raynor’s trademark design elements with truly unique and creative green complexes. Founded in 1925, Rock Spring Golf Club at West Orange has played host to the New Jersey State Open (1981, 1990, 2000 and 2009), the US Healthcare Classic, and many state PGA and USGA qualifying events.

Located just 15 miles west of Manhattan, Rock Spring Golf Club at West Orange also features a clubhouse with sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline, Cable Lake and Second Mountain.

 

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the General Manager, this position will assist in the daily operations management in all areas of the Facility. Assists with Weekly, Monthly and Annual reporting, budgeting, and merchandising for all areas. This position will require equal time in Facility Management, F&B and all guest service areas.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with the recruitment, hiring, supervision, and evaluation of restaurant, banquet and golf course employees, creating an environment for success.
  • Conducts orientation and training program for all restaurant, banquet, and golf course staff.
  • Organize and execute sales and billing of outings and special events and in-house tournaments and events.
  • Works with Head Golf Professional to maintain an accurate and up-to-date plan of F&B and facility staffing needs. Oversee schedules and ensure that the facility is appropriately staffed for all shifts.
  • Enforces sanitary practices for food handling, general cleanliness, and maintenance of kitchen and dining areas. Ensure compliance with local and regional health authorities.
  • Serves in the capacity of General Manager in the absence of the GM.
  • Acts as the closing manager as the position will require evenings Sun-Sat and additionally some morning opening shifts.
  • Works as a Team Player with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments.
  • Along with the Head Golf Professional, ensures that F&B facilities and equipment are maintained and in proper repair.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround time, streamline work processes and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
  • Hire, train, and manage all employees in a positive, uplifting, and gracious manor always leading by example.
  • Conducts all Month End inventories for F&B.
  • Performs additional duties as required.

 

Education/Qualifications/Certifications

  • Three years’ experience managing staff
  • Food and beverage sanitation certification preferred
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • Banquet/Restaurant management experience required
  • Must possess working knowledge of restaurant, bar, banquet, and golf operations
  • Strong knowledge of excel and possess good math skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of programs
  • Skilled in F&B POS software
  • Knowledge of inventory control
  • Experience in leading and training staff

 

Position Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to:

  • Read and write (English)
  • Communicate verbally with staff members and/or customers with or without the use of two-way radios.
  • Give and/or follow verbal and written instructions
  • Supervise subordinates
  • Visually inspect all work areas, golf course and grounds
  • See players on the golf course, and to follow the flight of golf balls
  • Perform mathematical calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Retrieve, read and interpret information from technical sources
  • Stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, bend and kneel for up to 5 hours at a time
  • Lift up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly

Working Conditions

Work hours may include days and evenings on weekdays and weekends.  Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.  May be exposed to inclement weather, potentially dangerous chemicals, solvents, pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers, misdirected golf balls, sharp and rapid equipment movement on a daily basis. Injury may result as a result of exposure to the above if safety policies and practices are not properly followed.

General office, golf, and kitchen equipment such as personal computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, calculators, telephones, golf clubs, golf cars, dishwashers, flat top grilles, fryers, ovens, stoves, etc.
