Position Summary:
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent plays a key leadership role in the care and maintenance of our championship-caliber golf course, grounds, and equipment. Working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent, this position helps plan and execute operating and capital budgets, supervises and develops staff, and ensures that all agronomic and maintenance standards consistently meet or exceed expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and adjust staffing schedules to maintain quality playing conditions year-round.
- Oversee the development, operation, and maintenance of drainage, irrigation, pumping, and water reservoir systems.
- Direct all planting, fertilizing, and care of turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, and trees on the golf course and surrounding grounds.
- Supervise equipment maintenance, repairs, and safe operating procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and compliance in all workspaces, including repair shops, storage facilities, wash pads, chemical/fertilizer storage areas, break rooms, and restrooms.
- Ensure strict adherence to OSHA regulations and all applicable state and federal laws regarding chemical and fertilizer handling, storage, and disposal.
- Keep accurate departmental records including labor schedules, course maintenance logs, safety meeting documentation, and detailed records of fertilizer, chemical, and pest control applications.
- Assist in training staff in best practices for safety, equipment operation, and course care.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Qualifications:
- Two- or four-year degree/ certificate in turfgrass management, agronomy, horticulture, or related field preferred.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to identify problems, develop solutions, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Flexible schedule, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Positive, professional demeanor and appearance at all times.
