River Ranch is a destination golf resort set atop the bluffs overlooking the Snake River, not far from Pasco, Washington. The first course is being designed by David McLay Kidd, a world-renowned architect whose international portfolio is lauded for the beauty, creativity, strategy, playability, walkability and adventure. At River Ranch, his design embraces the drama and setting of the Snake River corridor, takes into account the prevailing winds and exposes and enhances the topography that’s sure to deliver a golf experience that is both challenging, fair and fun!

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Second Assistant Superintendent plays a vital role in supporting the management and upkeep of the golf course. Responsibilities include maintaining the golf course and its equipment, assisting the Superintendent with budget planning and implementation, hiring, training, and supervising staff, as well as applying key landscaping and horticultural principles to ensure that quality standards are consistently achieved or exceeded.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the annual maintenance budget and operating plan to ensure cost containment.
  • Plan and manage staffing schedules to meet quality standards while minimizing costs.
  • Supervise maintenance tasks to keep the golf course in optimal playing condition.
  • Oversee the development and upkeep of drainage, irrigation, pumping and water reservoir systems.
  • Manage the planting, fertilizing, and care of turf, plants, shrubs, and trees on the golf course and grounds.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of a fertilizer, aeration, and Integrated Pest Management program for proper turf grass and plant care.
  • Supervise course construction projects.
  • Ensure maintenance of all appropriate quality and cleanliness standards including, but not limited to, employee hygiene and uniforms, equipment repair areas, equipment storage areas, chemical and fertilizer storage areas, receiving areas, washing areas, breakroom areas, restrooms, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, OSHA rules and regulations, relating to chemical and fertilizer storage and disposal, employee safety, public safety, etc.
  • Manage employment activities for applicable staff members, including but not limited to, personnel recruitment and selection, performance evaluations, training, compensation, discipline and termination, etc.
  • Maintain accurate records for pertaining to department activities including, but not limited to, labor schedules, course maintenance, construction activities, equipment repair, safety meetings and activities, fertilizer and chemical applications and pest control practices. Assure the efficient and timely submission of all required operational, financial, budgetary and related reports.
  • Maintain knowledge of current and projected industry developments through continuous attention to industry periodicals and participation in relevant trade associations and organizations.
  • The Assistant Superintendent may serve in the Superintendent’s capacity during his/her absence and perform other duties as appropriate.

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required; 2-year degree in turfgrass or related field preferred.
  • Open to current or prospective turfgrass program students.
  • Minimum 3 years of golf course maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrated experience and capabilities in budget development, fiscal management, strategic planning, staff management.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Able to analyze problems, manage multiple tasks under pressure, and work flexible hours.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and professional appearance.
  • Valid driver’s license

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to read and write English. Spanish is a plus.
  • Communicate verbally with team members and/or guests with or without the use of two-way radios.
  • Give and/or follow verbal and written instructions and supervise subordinates
  • Visually inspect all work areas, golf course and grounds
  • Operate vehicles and equipment for several hours at a time
  • Perform mathematical calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Retrieve, read and interpret information from technical sources
  • Stand, sit, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, bend and kneel for up to 5 hours at a time
  • Lift up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly

 

Working Conditions:

Work hours may include days and evenings on weekdays and weekends.  Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.  May be exposed to inclement weather, potentially dangerous chemicals, solvents, pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers, misdirected golf balls, sharp and rapid equipment movement daily. Injury may result as a result of exposure to the above if safety policies and practices are not properly followed.

 

Supervisory Role:

The Second Assistant Superintendent will supervise the Laborers.

 

Classification:

Full -Time, Year-Round, Exempt

  • Salary Range: $80,500 to $83,000 annually

 

This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, skills, and performance. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
